Nakshatra are Stars or cluster of Stars which are very far away from Earth and they are used as a Milestones to pinpoint the location of any Planet in our Solar System. The entire Zodiac (360 degrees) is split into 12 Zodiac Signs of 30 degree each. There are 27 Nakshatra each having its specific Name and Governing Planet. Consequently each Zodiac Sign have 2 & 1/4 (Two and One Fourth) Nakshatras. Each respective Nakshatra is further subdivided into 4 Charans known as Nakshatra Pad. Therefore there are overall 108 Nakshatra Pad. Hence, there are 9 Nakshatra Pads or Charan in Each Zodiac Sign.

The Nakshatra Shanti puja is directed to nullify the bad effects of the nakshatras. It prevails at the time of the birth of a person. The puja aims to finish the bad effects of the planets in their main periods or sub-periods. Also to get the beneficial results from the same planets.

Hence there are TWO types of Nakshatra Pujas as follows :

1. GandMoolNakshatra Shanti Puja : This Puja should be ,performed if a person is born in a GandMoolNakshatra (Ashwini,.Ashlesh, Magha,Jyeshtha , Mool,RevatiNakshatraThis is a separate kind of Puja
2. NakshatraPuja : This is the Puja for the rest of the Nakshatras. For Example, if a Person is born in the RohiniNakshatra, then his life is ruled by this Nakshatra and hence a Puja for this Nakshatra should be done for overall Health, Wealth and overall prosperity
